How to Start a Track
Open the map drawer, tap TRACK, choose an activity, optionally name it, and tap START TRACK. A Track records movement with no destination required.
Steps
- Open the map drawer.
- Tap TRACK.
- Choose the activity type.
- Optionally enter a name.
- Tap START TRACK.
How this works
A Track records movement that actually happened: a timestamped GPS trail with activity, duration, distance, movement and rest statistics, and quality diagnostics. It is personal history rather than Crew sharing — recording does not publish your position, and being Live does not record.
The server row is created before recording begins, which is why a Track cannot be started without connectivity. Once running the line is local, but no durable offline point outbox sits behind it.
Reliable recording with the screen locked needs Always location, and background continuity is still pending full physical-device validation. Do not force-quit the app during a recording.
What happens next
The Track HUD appears with elapsed time and distance, plus controls for pausing, adding a Checkpoint, and stopping.
Common problems
- Starting requires a signed-in account and service connectivity because the Track row is created first.
- Wait for a usable GPS fix for meaningful geometry.
- Recording a Track does not make you visible to a Crew; Live is a separate choice.
